You don't take a photograph, you make it. Ansel Adams
Do you want to become a better photographer?
You are in the right place. In 1967, I first picked up a camera and discovered the enchanting world of photography. At that time, I was completely inexperienced and eager to learn—quickly.
As an amateur photographer, I continued honing my skills until 1980, when I realized the most effective way to improve was by learning directly from professional photographers. I immersed myself in workshops, seminars, and actively sought feedback on my work. Understanding both my mistakes and successes became crucial. During those years, I invested significantly in my education, both in terms of time and resources.
Throughout my career, I've been privileged to have my work commissioned by some of the world's largest companies, supported by a dedicated group of private collectors, and honored to exhibit in galleries as far-reaching as Japan. Additionally, since 1995 I've had the distinct pleasure of mentoring talented but underprivileged photographers in Cuba, Mexico, and Colombia.
One to One sessions
My one-on-one sessions encompass all aspects of photography. While Lightroom editing and shooting techniques are frequently requested, I've also assisted photographers in compiling images for their website portfolios, competition entries, and job applications. A fresh perspective, devoid of emotional attachment to the photographs, often reveals overlooked details.
A skilled mentor can discern your strengths and weaknesses, offering insights to enhance your work in both immediate and lasting ways.
Each 90-minute session is priced at US100
Online Mentoring
Over the years, I've been approached numerous times about mentoring photographers. Recently, several photographers have booked multiple online sessions with me. We carefully structure each session, set specific tasks, review their work, and strive to bring out the best in their images. The results have been remarkable, with significant improvements in photograph quality observed in each case. Depending on the photographer’s needs, sessions are typically scheduled 2-3 weeks apart.
The fee for three 90-minute sessions is US250.
Experiences
Most photographers offering remote workshops will teach you how to capture beautiful travel photos in breathtaking locations. Well, that's all fine and dandy with me.
My approach is entirely different.
Photos aren't just travel snapshots... They can be more than just "pretty". The best photos aren't taken with a fantastic camera or by a highly skilled photographer. They come from the heart.
I've had the immense fortune of deeply exploring Mexico, Cuba, and Colombia for several years, living like a local (a fortunate local, I must add) in each of them. Throughout, my friends and colleagues were locals. That made all the difference.
Join me on this travel/social experience. Meet real people and learn from them. Let the magic happen and then see how your photos will reach the next level.
